Milan, Italy — September 14, 2016 — Endeavor is announcing the launch of Endeavor Italy, a new affiliate to help usher in a new era of growth and economic development driven by high-impact entrepreneurship in Italy. Endeavor Italy will support entrepreneurs and companies in the scale-up phase — enterprises that have passed through the initial start-up phase, and who demonstrate the potential for rapid expansion.
“We’re proud to launch in the Italian market and to enthusiastically take on the challenge of helping the big dreamers in Italy to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams,” said Linda Rottenberg, CEO and Co-Founder of Endeavor.
Endeavor Italy’s launch is made possible by a local network of donors who will collaborate with Endeavor’s global network of mentors, advisers and local offices to bring the Italian entrepreneurial ecosystem to a new level of development. The Milan office will focus on selecting and supporting high-impact entrepreneurs and businesses from multiple sectors that have the potential to grow to an international level and reinvest back into the country by mentoring and providing financial support for successive generations of entrepreneurs.
“Endeavor Italy intends to help entrepreneurs throughout Italy to take flight. We’re not only looking to help high tech enterprises but also those at a high level of specialization Made in Italy,” added Raffaele Mauro, Managing Director of Endeavor Italy. “Endeavor will support those entrepreneurs and organizations that have potential to grow long-term and build the economic future of our country.”
Endeavor Italy maintains a rigorous system of scouting entrepreneurs and businesses. To be selected, each candidate must present to numerous members of Endeavor’s local and global network. The final stage of the process is an International Selection Panel, where candidates are evaluated by judges ranging from venture capitalists and worldwide business leaders, to other entrepreneurs.
In 2016, Endeavor selected the organization’s first Italian entrepreneurs at the 65th and 66th International Selection Panels:
Davide Dattolli, Founder of Talent Garden, started his professional career in 2009 as a consultant, focusing on digital strategies and mobile social media marketing. He is a mentor of Virgin Startup, the London-based accelerator and serves on the boards of Digital Magics, the largest Venture Incubator in Italy, Digital Champions Association, and ItaliaStartup. Talent Garden is the largest co-working space network in Europe, with 16 current locations and plans for continued rapid expansion. The company has developed a unique model where each campus offers courses on digital technology and innovation and serves as a platform for events. The campuses have become innovation hubs and attract entrepreneurs, investors and large companies interested in the ecosystem in Italy and five other European countries. Dattoli was selected at the 65th Endeavor ISP in Bali.
Matteo Lai, co-founder and CEO of Empatica, studied engineering and holds dual Masters in Architecture and Innovation Management from the Alta Scuola Politecnica. He worked on experimental technology projects in the United States, Europe and South America. Empatica builds wearable devices with clinical-quality sensing capabilities, targeting the neurological disease space with an initial focus on epilepsy. The company’s first product, the E4, is the world’s smallest and most accurate wearable research device meant to track daily human behavior. Lai was selected at the 66th Endeavor ISP in Boston.
All Endeavor affiliates are guided by a local board of business leaders, each of whom believes that high-impact entrepreneurship can transform entire economies. The Endeavor Italy founding board will be chaired by Pietro Sella, CEO of Gruppo Banca Sella. He will be joined by Monica Mandelli, Managing Director of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts; Paolo Ainio, Executive Chairman of Banzai S.p.A.; Stefano Barrese, Head of Banca dei Territori Division at Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A.; Fabio Cannavale, CEO of lastminute.com Group; Riccardo Donadon, CEO of H-Farm S.p.A.; Alessandro Fracassi, CEO of Gruppo MutuiOnline S.p.A.; and Diego Piacentini, Commissioner for the Italian Government Digital Agenda.
The launch of Endeavor Italy was made possible by the commitment and passion of these local board members as well as the support of some of the region’s top institutions and foundations.
