SocialWire, an Istanbul-based startup, looks to radically improve product recommendation engines. By layering data from Facebook’s Open Graph over ISP tagged meta-data used in traditional recommendation engines, SocialWire matches online retailers clients’ with products that match their specific tastes. The entrepreneurs look to acquire and retain clients by powering the recommendations seen on their frontpage, and generate additional income by retargeting their clients’ ads on Facebook. SocialWire has already begun to catch the eye of marquee international retailers. With a Facebook “like” featuring a product or brand valued at US$5 and tweet at US$2.50, social recommendations represent the evolution of the online e-commerce market, and SocialWire hopes to out-compete Silicon Valley in this lucrative space.
