Sameer is bringing the benefits of the organic movement to struggling farmers in his native India. Suminter brings small-scale farms up to international organic standards and then buys the produce (e.g., cotton) at a premium for export to the global market, focusing on organic cotton and non-perishables. By organizing local farms in its program, Suminter is renewing agriculture as a viable livelihood and generating impact for over 7,000 cotton farmers and their families in the Gujarat and Maharashtra regions. Suminter continues to prove that Indian innovation is not limited to the high-tech sector, but can thrive in traditional industries.

In 2009, Suminter won the Villgro “Social Enterprise of the Year” award for its ability to deliver on its triple bottom line returns.
