Jamil founded Green Studios in 2010 after seeing the potential for hydroponics to transform the Middle East’s urban landscapes. The company now designs and installs its green walls and roofs, and provides its own independent landscape architecture services. Using its proprietary technology, which pumps water through a synthetic “skin” on which the plants grow, Green Studios’ builds walls that require three times less water than competitors. With this technology it is able to plant over 200 types of plants, vertically and in several soil types, all while increasing plant growth up to 300%.

As the global market for green roofs and walls grows, Green Studios stands to become the global reference for green installations customized to inhospitable climates. The company has worked with prominent Lebanese real estate developers and continues to expand its projects in Dubai and Egypt. In Lebanon, Jamil has secured a patent for his innovative green structures, which capture climate information and calibrate water dispersal to sustain conditions optimal for botanic growth while conserving water.

Through its exclusive partnership with ZinCo, a world leader in green roof technology, Green Studios has become the first company to combine green installation technology with design for a warm-weather environment. To date the company has completed over 20 projects in the MENA region, the most water-scarce in the world, with plans for a round of financing that will facilitate entry into new markets. Moreover, by producing 90% of the required materials in-house, Green Studios is able to cut costs and maintain a cost-efficient pricing model.

Jamil has benefited from Endeavor’s mentorship on investment and growth strategies for the company’s expansion to Egypt, the UAE, and the U.S. He also sought expertise from Endeavor on patenting his technology in the U.S., strengthening R&D, and standardizing operations. A model of world-class technology in a rapidly developing market, Jamil has become a role model for other Lebanese entrepreneurs creating a scholarship program for architecture students in Lebanon.
