Founded in 1993 by entrepreneurs Altino Cristofoletti and Expedito Arena, Casa do Construtor provides homeowners, self-employed professionals and small construction companies with equipment such as scaffolding and concrete mixers through a mixed model retail chain composed of its own ten stores and 75 franchises.

When Altino befriended Expedito at a Rio Claro Catholic youth ministry in the countryside of Sao Paulo, they did not imagine they’d found the largest chain of niche equipment rental store thirty years later. Both enrolled in public technical schools, and worked full-time in order to pay for college. They graduated from Escola de Engenharia de Piracicaba as civil engineers, and started their own construction companies. It was very hard for them to get quality equipment. Altino and Expedito identified a neglected client base and aimed to capitalize on a niche market opportunity.

While running their construction companies, the entrepreneurs launched their first CdC store in their hometown. They experienced a steep learning curve, but found the business profitable. By 1997, the operations standardized and they looked to expand.

Casa de Construtor leases specialized construction equipment to homeowners, self-employed professionals and small construction companies for variable time periods at reasonable prices. The company offers scaffolding related products as well as demolition tools and concrete mixers.

The franchise model has not only allowed CdC to scale to 85 stores that serve shifting customer bases, but it also has provided the company with other significant competitive advantages.
